The People

Horse GirlPalmerston North, the region’s largest city, is a sophisticated urban environment with great shopping, culture, entertainment and, especially, great people! It’s a vibrant, intelligent, international community of 76,000. A colourful mix of people lives harmoniously in a clean, fresh, green environment. While English is the everyday language, up to 11 home languages are commonly spoken in city schools.

New Zealand’s largest university attracts students from around the world to the city and government research laboratories are an international workplace for scientists.

People having coffeeThe People of Manawatu are ‘Real Kiwis’, holding close to their hearts the values New Zealand was built on.  They are practical, friendly people, enjoy an outdoor lifestyle, and come from all walks of life.

In New Zealand, sport is big -  in particular, the games of rugby, netball and golf.  On Saturdays the sports fields of the region come alive as a hard working community relaxes!
